Comenius Assistants
Take up the challenge! Become a Comenius Assistant in Slovenia!
Comenius Assistantships is an action of Lifelong Learning Programme which supports and stimulates the mobility of future teachers across Europe. Join the Assistants group and experience a very creative and challenging way of teaching.
If you either hold a teaching qualification and have not been
previously been employed as a teacher, or have completed at least two
years of higher education studies which could lead to such a
qualification, you can apply for a grant to undertake the assistantship
in Slovenia at the National Agency in your country.
There is one application deadline in a year – January.
There
is no need to identify the host school (including pre-schools and
vocational secondary schools) at which you wish to carry out the
assistantship, but only preferred assistantship profile (type of
organisation, age range of pupils, subject taught, preference on date
and for host institution`s country).
As an assistant you are not
to act as full-time teacher but should assist in teaching and other
school activities (max 12 to 16 hours of school based activity are
recommended). The host school is obliged to designate a fully qualified
and experienced teacher to act as a supervisor for the assistant.
Please read Guide for Applicants and our Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) to find out more about the assistantship.
If you still have questions please consult your National Agency. At Slovene National agency we can give you more information about potential Slovene host institutions.
SHORT navigation through the Assistantships
The objective of the Assistantships (Assistants) is to give
future teachers the opportunity to gain a better understanding of the
European dimension to teaching and learning, to enhance their knowledge
of foreign languages, other European countries and their education
systems and to improve their teaching skills.
The tasks to which an assistant may contribute include:
- assisting in classroom teaching, supporting pupils' group work and project-based teaching
- improving the pupil’s comprehension and expression in foreign languages, teaching the assistant’s mother tongue,
- providing support for pupils with special educational needs,
- providing information on the assistant’s country of origin,
- introducing or reinforcing the European dimension in the host institution,
- developing and implementing projects, e.g eTwinning, Comenius School Partnerships or Comenius Regio Partnerships
Comenius assistants may be based at more than one institution, either to give extra variety to their work or to meet the particular needs of neighboring institutions. Assistants may not work in more than 3 institutions during their assistantship.
Assistants are selected by the National Agencies of their home country.
Duration: The Assistantship can be from 13 weeks up to 45 weeks, taking place in a country other the one where the applicant lives and work.
Who can apply: Applicants must either hold a teaching qualification or have completed at least two years of higher education studies which could lead to such a qualification. Applicants must not have previously been employed as a teacher.
How to apply for a grant: The application must be submitted by individuals (any future teacher) to the National Agency in their home country.
